About the Dubai Metro Map

The Dubai Metro map shows two fully operational lines — the Red Line and the Green Line — operated by the RTA (Roads and Transport Authority). Together they span 74.6 kilometres and serve 53 stations, making Dubai's metro one of the longest fully automated driverless urban rail systems in the world. All stations are accessible using a NOL card — the official smart payment card for all RTA transport.

Understanding the metro map Dubai layout helps you plan journeys efficiently. The Red Line runs in a near-straight east-to-west corridor, stretching from the airport area in the east to the residential and business districts near the Abu Dhabi border in the west. The Green Line runs in a shorter loop through Deira and Bur Dubai, connecting the historic parts of the city to the Red Line at two interchange stations: Union and BurJuman.

A printable Dubai Metro map is available as a PDF from the official RTA website. The map shows all station names, zone boundaries, interchange points, parking connections, and bus/tram connections. For digital planning, the S'hail app and Google Maps both display real-time metro route and metro line information for the entire Dubai Metro network.

Map coverage note: This page covers the current operational network (Red Line + Green Line). For the upcoming Blue Line expansion connecting Dubai Creek Harbour and the new metro stations beyond Dubai Marina, see the Dubai future metro map guide.

It runs from Creek station in the south through the Gold Souk area, Deira, and Al Qusais, terminating at Etisalat in the north. The Green Line intersects the Red Line at Union and BurJuman — both major interchange stations.

Key Green Line stations include Creek, Al Ghubaiba, BurJuman (interchange), Union (interchange), Salah Al Din, Abu Hail, Al Qusais, Dubai Healthcare City, and Etisalat. Dubai Metro Fare Zones

The metro map is divided into 3 fare zones — your NOL card fare depends on how many zones you cross

1
Zone 1 (T1)
Travel within a single zone. Minimum fare applies. Most short journeys stay within one zone.
2
Zone 2 (T2)
Travel crossing into a second zone. Covers most cross-city commutes on the Red Line.
3
Zone 3 (T3)
Cross-zone travel across all three zones. Applies to long-distance journeys end-to-end on the Red Line.

💳 NOL Card Fares on Dubai Metro

Fares on the Dubai Metro are calculated automatically by your NOL card based on entry and exit zones. A single zone trip costs AED 3 (Silver card), two zones cost AED 5, and a three-zone journey costs AED 7.50. Gold Class fares are higher. The card deducts the correct fare when you tap out at your destination station.

If you travel daily, a NOL card monthly pass is far more cost-effective than paying per trip. The 2-zone monthly pass covers most regular commutes on the network. You can also check your NOL card balance at any metro station TVM before boarding.

How to Read the Dubai Metro Map

The Dubai Metro map uses a classic transit diagram layout similar to the London Underground map — it shows logical station positions rather than geographic scale. The Red Line is shown in red running horizontally, and the Green Line runs in a partial loop shown in green. Interchange stations — Union and BurJuman — are marked with a double circle to indicate that passengers can switch between lines there for free (no extra charge).

Zone boundaries are marked on the metro map Dubai with dotted lines showing where Zone 1, Zone 2, and Zone 3 begin and end. Parking+Ride (P+R) stations are also marked — these let you park your car for free and commute by metro. Stations with bus or tram connections are typically shown with a symbol on the printed RTA version of the map.

For the most accurate real-time journey planning using the updated Dubai Metro map, use the RTA S'hail app. It integrates metro, bus, and tram routes and shows live service status. Google Maps also supports the full Dubai Metro network and provides step-by-step directions using it.

Map tip: The metro map latest version from RTA includes the Route 2020 extension stations. Always use the most recent PDF from rta.ae rather than third-party images, as third-party maps may not reflect the latest station additions.

Dubai Metro Future Map – Blue Line Expansion

The new Dubai metro map will eventually include a third line — the Blue Line. This is the most significant expansion to the Dubai metro plan since the Route 2020 extension. The Blue Line is designed to run in a large loop, connecting areas currently not served by the metro, including Dubai Silicon Oasis, Academic City, International City, and completing a circular link back to the existing Red Line.

The Blue Line forms part of the RTA's long-term dubai metro map future strategy to expand public transport capacity and reduce car usage across the emirate. Construction timelines have been announced but are subject to change — always refer to the official RTA website for confirmed dates. The new metro station map once the Blue Line opens will significantly expand the number of stations served.

Additionally, future plans include extending the metro map new with a Purple Line serving new residential developments to the south and west of the current network.

Yes — transferring between lines at interchange stations is free, as long as you do not exit the paid zone. The two interchange stations are Union and BurJuman. Simply follow the interchange signs on the platform. Your NOL card will calculate the total fare from origin to final destination across both lines automatically on tap-out.
